Vegan Mofo: Super foods are super fuel!

Today, I had a cross-country meet, but it wasn't just any cross country meet! This was the CITY FINALS. *cue intense music*

(I'm not going to tell you all how I did until the end of the post, hehe! keep reading!)

Anyways, the runners placing in the top 15 would be sent to Provincials in Canmore (in the Rocky Mountains). Dang! As much as I love running, though, I hatttte racing. There's something I just greatly dislike about the competition, since running is just a fun thing for me. So, I decided that I'd go into this race without any expectations or pressure, just the goal of having a good time. I've got a really competitive nature so I do have to try to suppress that.

Now, that doesn't mean I didn't take the race seriously, because I did! Especially the fueling my body part...

For breakfast, I had steel-cut oats, and they were just excellent. I feel awfully clever, too- instead of having to cook them for a long time in the morning, I simply soaked a bowl of oats overnight in soymilk. By the morning, they were slightly tender, so I just added more soymilk, cinnamon, and blueberries. I popped that in the microwave for a bit, and voila! A delicious & nutritious breafast that was dang easy.

Mmm.... steel-cut oats. I love the chewy texture, it's fantastic :)

Anyways,, my race was at 1:45, so I didn't want to be eating a big lunch. I put together a lazy bento last night, using some of the new paper/nori-cutters I bought.
Fun shapes! Moon, sun, big circle, little circle, hear, star, tulip, and other flower.

A light lunch of mixed greens, celery, steamed carrots, tomatoes, and zucchini was really quite perfect...

How about a close-up on those shapes? :)

Anyways, yeah the race. It was a sunny day, but cold (10 degrees Celsius) and super-windy. Ack!
Plus, my 'archnemisis' was there. Let's just call her Grizelda, okay? She goes to a different high school than me, but we were together for awhile in junior high and she was SO mean to me, for no reason. It was so stupid... but anyways, she's a good runner too. At the last meet, I beat her and it practically made my day. It's silly, I know.

The one thing I love about this particular race course is the fact that it's practically all hills. I love hills!

Um, yeah I don't think you all really want to hear about all the little details of the race... but guess what?

I came in 10th! Way ahead of Grizelda! AND, that means I'm going to PROVINCIALS! Next weekend! In Canmore! Woohoo! I can be a poster child for veganism!

Yeah, I've still got my runner's high going on right now. :) See you all tomorrow!

that's cool that you qualified. I used to do xcountry in high school. fun stuff. hated the pre race jitters, tho.

that bent is so cute. I never thought of using paper cutters. makes total sense.

Wow! That's great. You're like a young Canadian Scott Jurek!

And congrats on beating Grizelda! I'm sure she's a huge bee-otch! Serves her right.
